The museum is operated by its founder Riitta Liski with the help of local volunteers and private funding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the early 20<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> century Kellokoski Ironworks developed from a traditional ironworks into a mechanical engineering plant which produced a large variety of products. The main products included various equipment for dairies (milk containers, cans and buckets, separators etc), utensils for the building sector and houseware items. Products were traditionally made of iron, steel or copper. In the mid-1950s the ironworks started the manufacturing of the small boats in aluminium.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The permanent collections include products manufactured from the late 19th century to the 1970s. 1979. Sen vanhat tehdasrakennukset muodostavat nykyisin kokonaisuuden nimelt\u00e4\u00e4n Kellokosken ruukki.<\/p>\n<p>Kellokosken kartanon is\u00e4nt\u00e4 Lars Olof Nysten perusti ruukin 1795 koskivoiman ja seudun rehevien metsien vuoksi. Paikalla sijaitsi jo mylly ja saha. Nysten antoi tehtaalle nimen Mariefors bruk vaimonsa mukaan.<\/p>\n<p>Ruukin pajassa valmistettiin aluksi kankirautaa ja nauloja, my\u00f6hemmin 1800-luvulla erilaisia maataloudessa tarvittavia tuotteita kuten kirveit\u00e4, lapioita, kuokkia ja auroja,my\u00f6hemmin my\u00f6s vasaroita, saranoita ja hevosenkenki\u00e4. Nystenin j\u00e4lkeen 1800 &#8211; luvulla tehdasta johtivat Johan Solitander ja Lars Magnus Bj\u00f6rkenheim. Kun kartanon is\u00e4nn\u00e4ksi tuli Robert Bj\u00f6rkenheim, h\u00e4n luopui ruukista keskitty\u00e4kseen maatalouteen. Bj\u00f6rkenheim perusti kyl\u00e4lle mm. meijerin, viinatehtaan ja maatalouskoulun. Sahan toiminta p\u00e4\u00e4ttyi, koska seudun mets\u00e4t oli hakattu loppuun.<\/p>\n<p>Bj\u00f6rkenheim vuokrasi tehtaan John Wilhelm Wahrenille 1863, mutta tehdas p\u00e4\u00e4tyi t\u00e4m\u00e4n is\u00e4lle Axel Wahrenille pojan ep\u00e4s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6llisen el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavan vuoksi. Mariefors bruk var ett medelstort familjef\u00f6retag som en g\u00e5ng i tiden var k\u00e4nt f\u00f6r sina mejerik\u00e4rl, g\u00e5ngj\u00e4rn och verktyg samt av tillverkningen av Finlands f\u00f6rsta aluminiumb\u00e5tar.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Historisk bakgrund<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Man har r\u00e4knat med att det har sedan 1550-talet funnits \u00e5ttio bruksorter med industriell j\u00e4rn- och koppartillverkning i Finland. Brukssamh\u00e4llena har under \u00e5rhundradena genomg\u00e5tt m\u00e5nga brytningstider. Fram till 1960-talet fungerade de i stort s\u00e4tt enligt traditionellt m\u00f6nster. Bruken var inte enbart arbetsgivare utan hade en mera omfattande roll p\u00e5 orten som f\u00f6rs\u00f6rjare och tryggare av ortsbornas v\u00e4lf\u00e4rd.<\/p>\n<p>Mariefors brukssamh\u00e4lle har under sin historia upplevt livliga tider, eldsv\u00e5dor och \u00e4garbyten. J\u00e4rnbruket med en st\u00e5ngj\u00e4rnhammare och tv\u00e5 h\u00e4rdar grundades 1795 d\u00e5 j\u00e4rnindustrin var en stadigt v\u00e4xande industrigren i Sverige-Finland.<\/p>\n<p>Bruket upplevde m\u00e5nga \u00e4garskiften under 1800-talet f\u00f6re det \u00f6vergick i sl\u00e4kten Carlanders \u00e4go. Sl\u00e4kten Carlander h\u00e4rstammade fr\u00e5n G\u00f6teborg och kom till Finland p\u00e5 1880-talet. These were located in the vicinity of rivers or waterways, which provided for the necessary waterpower. The family-owned ironworks became the centre of the small rural communities providing the inhabitants with work as well as social and cultural services. The first small rural ironworks in Finland were founded in the late 16th century but most of them were founded in the 17th and 18th centuries.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, Kellokoski has developed around the ironworks by the river of Kervo. The first blast furnace was opened in 1795 and it was the first industrial plant in the municipality of Tuusula. During the 19th century the ironworks had several owners. In 1896 the ironworks was bought by Carl Fredrik Carlander originally from Gothenburg, Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 20th century Kellokoski Ironworks (Oy Kellokosken tehdas \u2013 Mariefors bruk Ab) developed from a traditional ironworks into a mechanical engineering plant which produced a large variety of products such as tools, building hardware, hinges, milk containers and other products for the dairy industry.<\/p>\n<p>By the middle of the 1950s the increased domestic and foreign competition and the decline in the demand for the traditional products forced the Kellokoski Ironworks to look for new products and innovations. In 1955 Kellokoski Ironworks launched the first small leisure boats built in aluminium. After the launching of the first model in 1955, serial production was started the following year and the sales prospects were positive.<\/p>\n<p>The innovation costs were however very high for the family business, and there were no forms of R&amp;D or export credits at the time. The company experienced cash flow problems, especially after its premises were flooded in September 1962. A bid for the company by the large metal corporation Fiskars was accepted in December the same year. The new owner Oy Fiskars Ab continued to manufacture aluminium boats at the premises until 1977. Tehtaan johtajana toimi Carl Fredrik Carlander ja t\u00e4st\u00e4 alkoi ruukin kukoistuskausi. Suvulla oli tehdas Kemi\u00f6n saarella Bj\u00f6rkbodassa, josta he siirsiv\u00e4t tuotannon koneita ja henkil\u00f6kuntaa my\u00f6ten Kellokoskelle. Ty\u00f6ntekij\u00f6it\u00e4 varten rakennettiin punaiseksi maalatut asuinkasarmit tehtaan l\u00e4helle.<\/p>\n<p>Tehdas paloi 1898. Vain tiilirakenteiset tinaamo, valimo ja vasarapaja j\u00e4iv\u00e4t pystyyn. Uudet tiiliset tehdasrakennukset suunnitteli Elia Heikel. Karkaisemista varten tehtiin lis\u00e4rakennus, hehkutusosasto eli \u201dhelvetti\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ty\u00f6 oli viel\u00e4 k\u00e4sity\u00f6nomaista. Edelleen taottiin mm. kirveit\u00e4 ja kuokkia. P\u00e4\u00e4asiallisesti valmistettiin rautalevyt\u00f6it\u00e4, erityisesti meijeriastioita.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1908<\/strong> ostettiin Englannista polttomoottori Maija, koska vesivoima ei aina riitt\u00e4nyt py\u00f6ritt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n kaikkia tehtaan koneita. Maija on nyky\u00e4\u00e4n kirkon vieress\u00e4 muistomerkkin\u00e4. Tuotevalikoima laajentui koko ajan. Maitoastiat, talous- ja rakennustarvikkeet, ty\u00f6kalut sek\u00e4 paloruiskut muodostivat tuotannon rungon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1934<\/strong> tehtaan johtaja Carl Fredrik Carlander kuoli ja h\u00e4nen poikansa Torsten \u201dTotti\u201d Carlander astui tehtaan johtoon. 1937 konttori siirtyi uusiin tiloihin valimon yl\u00e4puolelle. S\u00e4hk\u00f6galvanointiosasto eli niklaamo valmistui 1935. Seuraavaksi tehtiin s\u00e4hk\u00f6njakotorni. 1938 valmistui kaksikerroksinen meijeriastiarakennus eli Lasipalatsi, johon my\u00f6hemmin rakennettiin kolmas kerros. Kirkko korjattiin 1930- luvun alussa. Katolle rakennettiin torni ja ikkunat saivat kruunu-koristeensa. Tehtaalla kaikki maalattiin valkoiseksi koneita my\u00f6ten, kaikki oli my\u00f6s hyv\u00e4ss\u00e4 j\u00e4rjestyksess\u00e4. Tehtaalla valmistettiin satoja tuotteita ja tuotesarjoja.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1941<\/strong> rakennettiin turpeella toimiva kaasulaitos, sill\u00e4 sotatilan takia tehtaan toiminnassa oli ongelmia kun raaka- ja polttoaineen saanti vaikeutui. Patoa korotettiin metrill\u00e4 vesivoiman tehon hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4miseksi. Sota- aikana valmistettiin armeijalle mm. lusikka-haarukoita ja k\u00e4sikranaatin kuoria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1950<\/strong>-luvulla maitoastioiden tuotanto alkoi hiipua ja korvaajaksi tuli Suomen ensimm\u00e4isten alumiiniveneiden, Kelloveneiden valmistus. Tehdas oli tunnettu sek\u00e4 koti- ett\u00e4 ulkomailla. Se oli hyvin muuntautumiskykyinen, uusia tuotteita kehiteltiin lakkaamatta. Tehtaalla oli enimmill\u00e4\u00e4n 450 ty\u00f6ntekij\u00e4\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1963<\/strong> Kellokosken tehtaat siirtyi Fiskars Oy:n omistukseen. Veneiden tuotanto siirrettiin my\u00f6hemmin \u00c4ht\u00e4riin Inhan tehtaille, jossa ne saivat Buster- nimen. Fiskarsin aikana valmistettiin edelleen mm. saranoita, j\u00e4tes\u00e4kkitelineit\u00e4, Kelloterm- \u00f6ljykamiinoiden kuoria, mikroaaltouunien kuoria sek\u00e4 erityisesti \u00f6ljytynnyreit\u00e4. Den otillr\u00e4ckliga tillg\u00e5ngen p\u00e5 vattenkraft i Bj\u00f6rkboda tvingade \u00e4garna att 1896 flytta tillverkningen till Klockforsen i Tusby kommun. Efter eldsv\u00e5dan 1898 byggdes de r\u00f6da tegelbyggnaderna ritade av arkitekt Heikel.<\/p>\n<p>Mariefors bruk var familjen Carlanders livsverk i tre generationer och ett medelstort traditionellt brukssamh\u00e4lle med m\u00e5nga s\u00e4rdrag. Fabriken levde sitt eget isolerade liv och utgjorde socialt sett ett familjebolag, d\u00e4r \u00e4ven de anst\u00e4llda r\u00e4knade sig som bruksbor fr\u00e5n sl\u00e4kte till sl\u00e4kte. Brukssamh\u00e4llet fungerade som &#8221;en stat i staten&#8221; med allt vad d\u00e4rtill h\u00f6rde, s\u00e5som skola, kyrka, bibliotek, biograf och samlingslokaler d\u00e4r ofta i brukets regi ordnades fritidsaktiviteter f\u00f6r alla ortsbor.<\/p>\n<p>Livet i Mariefors brukssamh\u00e4lle pr\u00e4glades av arbete och gemenskap utanf\u00f6r arbetet. Till brukspatronens skyldigheter h\u00f6rde ocks\u00e5 omsorgen om de underlydandes h\u00e4lsa och v\u00e4lf\u00e4rd. P\u00e5 1900-talet f\u00e4ste man stor uppm\u00e4rksamhet p\u00e5 att f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra de sociala f\u00f6rh\u00e5llandena och fabriken blev k\u00e4nd f\u00f6r den sociala omsorgen. En sjuk- och begravningskassa inr\u00e4ttades som hj\u00e4lp f\u00f6r de obemedlade. Bruket underst\u00f6dde ortens f\u00f6reningsverksamhet, s\u00e5som k\u00f6r- och orkesterverksamhet, skyddsk\u00e5rsavdelningen, den frivilliga brandk\u00e5ren och dess hornorkester samt syssels\u00e4ttningar f\u00f6r barn. Brukskyrkan var en viktig del av bygemenskapen och bruket bekostade flera omfattande renoveringar av kyrkan. Under renovationen i slutet av 1920-talet m\u00e5lades kyrkan och dekorerades den med vita kors och kronor ovanom f\u00f6nstren.<\/p>\n<p>En annan viktig samlingspunkt f\u00f6r byborna var brukets festlokal d\u00e4r det ordnades fester oftast med musikaliska inslag. Festlokalen fungerade \u00e4ven som biografsalong. Byggnaden var ursprungligen ett br\u00e4nneri som 1924 \u00f6vertogs och renoverades av bruket.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brukets produktion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brukets huvudprodukt under 1800-talet var st\u00e5ngj\u00e4rn, men p\u00e5 1900-talet utvidgades produktionen till att omfatta mejerik\u00e4rl, redskap, byggnadsbeslag samt konsumtions och byggnadsmaterial. Sedermera blev mj\u00f6lktransportflaskorna den viktigaste produkten. Efter generationsskiftet 1934 tog bruket namnet Oy Kellokosken tehdas Mariefors bruk Ab under ledning av br\u00f6derna Torsten och Nils-Erik Carlander. En period av betydande investeringar och produktionsutveckling inleddes. Bruket utvecklades till en modern maskinverkstadsindustri. Nya fabriksfastigheter byggdes (glaspalatset, gjuteriet), tillverkningsmetoderna moderniserades och maskiner skaffades fr\u00e5n Sverige, Tyskland och Danmark. De anst\u00e4lldas arbetsf\u00f6rh\u00e5llanden f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrades. Alla fabriksbyggnader m\u00e5lades vita s\u00e5som den r\u00e5dande funkisstilen f\u00f6respr\u00e5kade. M\u00e5nga nya id\u00e9er kom till under Torsten Carlanders resor i Europa. Mariefors bruk blir en av Finlands fr\u00e4msta tillverkare av mejerik\u00e4rl, mj\u00f6lktransportflaskor, verktyg och byggnadsbeslag och sysselsatte hundratals ortsbor. Under krigs\u00e5ren 1939-1944 tillverkades f\u00f6rn\u00f6denheter f\u00f6r F\u00f6rsvarsministeriet (granatdelar, yxor, transportk\u00e4rl). Fabriksledningen f\u00f6rkastade F\u00f6rsvarsministeriets f\u00f6rslag att flytta produktionen till Fredriksfors bruk (Leineperi) n\u00e4ra Bj\u00f6rneborg. Tillverkningen av mj\u00f6lktransportflaskor tryggades med hj\u00e4lp av tysk expertis med Folkf\u00f6rs\u00f6rjningsministeriets samtycke. N\u00e4r de mansdominerade arbetsuppgifterna blev mera varierande och mekaniseringen framskred uppstod det flera f\u00f6rtj\u00e4nstm\u00f6jligheter f\u00f6r kvinnor. Under kriget hade bruket inte kunnat fungera utan kvinnlig arbetskraft.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Efterkrigstiden<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Efter krigs\u00e5ren f\u00f6rsv\u00e5rades produktionen av bristen p\u00e5 r\u00e5varor, den str\u00e4nga regleringspolitiken och situationen p\u00e5 arbetsmarknaden. Betalningen av det tunga krigsskadest\u00e5ndet till Sovjetunionen tyngde landets ekonomi. Tidsperioden pr\u00e4glades av politisk instabilitet, social oro och strejker. Efter storstrejken i mars 1956 steg r\u00e5varupriserna och bruket tvingades h\u00f6ja priset p\u00e5 produkterna. Kello b\u00e5tar s\u00e5ldes redan nu till bl.a. Sverige. Devalveringen 1957 och utvecklingen inom mj\u00f6lkhush\u00e5llningen var inte gynnsam f\u00f6r bruket. Inom mj\u00f6lkhush\u00e5llningen och transporten av mejeriprodukter \u00f6vergick man till anv\u00e4ndning av plast och transport i stora lastbilskontainer. F\u00f6rs\u00e4ljningen av mejerik\u00e4rl minskade radikalt 1958 d\u00e5 statsmakten h\u00f6jde avgifterna p\u00e5 kraftfoder och lanthush\u00e5llningen b\u00f6rjade g\u00e5 in f\u00f6r spannm\u00e5lsodling ist\u00e4llet f\u00f6r boskapssk\u00f6tsel d\u00e4r man beh\u00f6vde mejerik\u00e4rl. Utsikterna f\u00f6r tillverkningen av brukets \u00f6vriga huvudprodukter var tidvis ljusare, men utmanade av den h\u00e5rdnande utl\u00e4ndska och inhemska konkurrensen. I medlet av 1950-talet inf\u00f6rdes l\u00e4ttnader f\u00f6r import av r\u00e5varor vilket m\u00f6jliggjorde smidigare importm\u00f6jligheter av r\u00e5varor (s\u00e5som aluminium). Frihandelsavtalet 1957 medf\u00f6rde en betydande strukturell f\u00f6r\u00e4ndring. Brukets ledning omorganiserade produktionen och yrkade p\u00e5 en rationalisering och effektivering av anv\u00e4ndningen av b\u00e5de r\u00e5varor och arbetstider. Det kr\u00e4vdes nya produkter f\u00f6r att klara av utmaningarna. Nya id\u00e9er och tillverkningsmetoder studerades under resor till m\u00e4ssor och under industribes\u00f6k i Europa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I b\u00f6rjan av 1960-talet hade de traditionella produktionerna (g\u00e5ngj\u00e4rn, verktyg, mejerik\u00e4rl) ut\u00f6kats med flera andra produkter (st\u00e5lkorgar, v\u00e4rmekaminer, sn\u00f6spadar, smalfilmsbetraktaren Tottiscope). Efter den framg\u00e5ngsrika lanseringen av Finlands f\u00f6rsta aluminiumb\u00e5t satsade bruket p\u00e5 b\u00e5ttillverkningen. \u00c5r 1960 gick upp till 80 % av aluminiumb\u00e5tarna p\u00e5 export och framtidsutsikterna var goda. Verkst\u00e4llande direkt\u00f6ren Torsten Carlander reste runt om i landet och f\u00f6revisade sin pr-film En stat i staten. Filmen om tillverkning av aluminiumb\u00e5tar visades i Finlands television. Marknadsf\u00f6rings-, f\u00f6rs\u00e4ljnings- och sparsamhetskampanjer gick hand i hand. I maj 1962 ordnades Mariefors bruks 75-\u00e5rsfest i brukets festlokal. Arbetare i flera generationer bel\u00f6nades f\u00f6r trogen tj\u00e4nst. Den ekonomiska situationen var dock ytterst bekymmersam. I september 1962 drabbades hela bruksomr\u00e5det av en \u00f6desdiger \u00f6versv\u00e4mning. Staten v\u00e4grade betala ers\u00e4ttning f\u00f6r de omfattande skadorna. Mariefors bruk s\u00e5ldes till Fiskars-koncernen Lucia-dagen den 13 december 1962. Tehtaalla on valmistettu kaikkea, mit\u00e4 talouksissa on aikoinaan tarvittu.<\/p>\n<p>Tehdas oli aikoinaan Suomen suurin maitoastioiden valmistaja ja siell\u00e4 on tehty Suomen ensimm\u00e4iset alumiiniveneet, Kello-veneet. Ty\u00f6kaluja on valmistettu kirveist\u00e4 vasaroihin ja taloustarvikkeita puntareista mortteleihin. Bruket sysselsatte hundratals ortsbor. Den st\u00f6rsta produktgruppen bestod av mejerik\u00e4rl som anv\u00e4ndes b\u00e5de i lantg\u00e5rdar, mejerier och i hemmen. Mj\u00f6lktransportflaskorna blev symbolen f\u00f6r Mariefors bruk.
