Museum
The Kellokoski Ironworks Museum is a private museum founded in 2016. The museum is operated by its founder Riitta Liski with the help of local volunteers and private funding.
In the early 20th century Kellokoski Ironworks developed from a traditional ironworks into a mechanical engineering plant which produced a large variety of products. The main products included various equipment for dairies (milk containers, cans and buckets, separators etc), utensils for the building sector and houseware items. Products were traditionally made of iron, steel or copper. In the mid-1950s the ironworks started the manufacturing of the small boats in aluminium.
The permanent collections include products manufactured from the late 19th century to the 1970s. The collections also include photographs, maps and other items describing the production processes, the working conditions in the mill and the everyday life in the community.
The work of the Museum is supported by the Association of the Friends of Kellokoski Ironworks founded in 2023 (Kellokosken ruukinmuseon ystävät ry).
The museum has a voluntary admission fee.

Tulta päin, Kellokosken VPK 100 vuotta.
Juhlavuoden kunniaksi tehdasmuseo esittelee Kellokosken vapaapalokunnan monipuolista historiaa ja tehtaalla valmistettua sammutuskalustoa. VPK aloitti aikoinaan tehtaan palokuntana. Sammutustöiden lisäksi palokunnan toimintaan on liittynyt mm. soittokunta ja Männistön tanssilava.
Näyttely on avoinna 12.9.2026 - 30.10.2026, samoin kuin museon perusnäyttely ja museokauppa to-pe 11-16, la 11-15.
Perusnäyttely
Perusnäyttelyn rungon muodostavat Kellokosken tehtaalla valmistetut metallituotteet sekä tiedot niiden valmistuksesta,tehtaan työntekijöistä, omistajista, rakennuksista, kyläyhteisön elinoloista ja harrastuksista. Tehtaalla on valmistettu kaikkea, mitä talouksissa on aikoinaan tarvittu.
Tehdas oli aikoinaan Suomen suurin maitoastioiden valmistaja ja siellä on tehty Suomen ensimmäiset alumiiniveneet, Kello-veneet. Työkaluja on valmistettu kirveistä vasaroihin ja taloustarvikkeita puntareista mortteleihin. Rakennustarvikkeiden valmistus oli tärkeä osa tuotantoa; saranat, ovenkahvat ja vetimet.
Oma lukunsa on tehtaanjohtajan Torsten Carlanderin intohimoisten harrastusten pohjalta tehdyt tuotteet; nuottitelineet, mehiläishoitotarvikkeet ja elokuvausharrastukseen pohjautuva Tottiskooppi-
kaitafilmien katselulaite.

Museossa on ollut vaihtuvia näyttelyitä ruukin ja sitä ympäröivän kylän elämästä, mm.:

valmistusta) sekä pienoismallinäyttely Pikkuasioita.
”Julkkis kävi täällä” 2024.
Tarinoita kylässä asuneista ja vierailleista tunnetuista henkilöistä.
Osana näyttelyä olivat myös Tehtaan Juhlatalon ja Männistön tanssilavan historia sekä kylällä kuvatut elokuvat.
Joulunäyttelynä oli ”Vanhat postikortit”.

The History of Kellokoski Ironworks
Kellokoski (in Swedish Mariefors) some 45 kilometers north of Helsinki is today a vibrant rural community and the northern most part of the municipality of Tuusula.
One characteristic feature of the early industrial era in the Swedish-Finnish Kingdom (from the 12th century to 1809) was the establishment of ironworks or mills. These were located in the vicinity of rivers or waterways, which provided for the necessary waterpower. The family-owned ironworks became the centre of the small rural communities providing the inhabitants with work as well as social and cultural services. The first small rural ironworks in Finland were founded in the late 16th century but most of them were founded in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Historically, Kellokoski has developed around the ironworks by the river of Kervo. The first blast furnace was opened in 1795 and it was the first industrial plant in the municipality of Tuusula. During the 19th century the ironworks had several owners. In 1896 the ironworks was bought by Carl Fredrik Carlander originally from Gothenburg, Sweden.
In the early 20th century Kellokoski Ironworks (Oy Kellokosken tehdas – Mariefors bruk Ab) developed from a traditional ironworks into a mechanical engineering plant which produced a large variety of products such as tools, building hardware, hinges, milk containers and other products for the dairy industry.
By the middle of the 1950s the increased domestic and foreign competition and the decline in the demand for the traditional products forced the Kellokoski Ironworks to look for new products and innovations. In 1955 Kellokoski Ironworks launched the first small leisure boats built in aluminium. After the launching of the first model in 1955, serial production was started the following year and the sales prospects were positive.
The innovation costs were however very high for the family business, and there were no forms of R&D or export credits at the time. The company experienced cash flow problems, especially after its premises were flooded in September 1962. A bid for the company by the large metal corporation Fiskars was accepted in December the same year. The new owner Oy Fiskars Ab continued to manufacture aluminium boats at the premises until 1977. The ironworks in its traditional form was closed down in 1963.
